2. Gracie Barra El Paso

Gracie Barra El Paso is another gym under the Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Banner.

This modern approach to BJJ has helped many newcomers learn the intricacies of grappling, while improving their health and self-confidence.

The beauty of the Gracie Barra system is that its streamlined curriculum has been refined for over 30 years. Just like at school you will understand what is expected of you before each class and will have a clear path to achieving the next level of your goals.

As this program is consistent across all Gracie Barra schools, you will be able to continue your BJJ growth no matter what Gracie Barra gym you attend. You simply pick up from where you left off at your previous gym, something that might be a huge benefit for those who constantly have to travel for work and are fed up with starting from scratch at each new gym.

As a franchise martial arts gym, you can expect impeccable facilities, high levels of hygiene and all of the necessary equipment.

Any age and skill level are welcome. You will take part in a structured curriculum that will give you a precise gauge of where you are at and how to advance to the next belt. Expert coaches will guide you through your journey and will help you meet your personal goals. If you are looking to master BJJ and climb the ranks to a black belt, you will be given equal guidance.

Although Gracie Barra is a pure BJJ gym, it focuses on a very practical form of BJJ. That means they focus on techniques that are practical in real-life situations and Mixed Martial Arts. Everything learned here will transfer well to the cage and the streets.

3. Briggs Academy of MMA

Briggs Academy of MMA was founded by Professor Jesse Briggs so that he might share his wealth of MMA experience with a new generation.

Jesse is relatively young for someone with so many years of experience across so many different disciplines. He coaches the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Savate-Thai Kickboxing, Sparring and Combat Submission Wrestling classes. If that is not a testament to his commitment to learning every aspect of martial arts, I don’t know what is.

You will have the chance to train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, Self-defense and Kali (a Filipino martial art focused on practical self-defense and disarming attackers, somewhat similar to Krav Maga). This broad range of martial arts is a great insight into the modern and practical approach at Briggs Academy of MMA.

Useable martial arts are at the forefront of what is taught at Briggs Academy of MMA, with a real focus on increasing your self-confidence and ability to protect yourself. Of course, these skills all transfer over well to MMA, which itself is a very grounded and less constrained form of fighting.

If you want to try out their program but are maybe too nervous to go to the gym or too self-conscious about your ability; why not try one of their online trial courses to get a feel for their teaching style and your own ability.

Briggs Academy of MMA truly represents a modern approach to MMA. Whether it’s the forward thinking online courses, the practical mix of disciplines on offer or the youthful, yet experienced, Owner and Head Coach Jesse Briggs; this gym is the likely the future of MMA in El Paso, Texas.
