Top 3 MMA gyms in Tallahassee Florida!

Is there a city in Florida more obsessed with MMA and fitness than Tallahassee? Well, show me – because the amount and structure of MMA gyms in the city are a great sight to behold. Here is our article on the top 3 MMA gyms in Tallahassee to guide you toward making a good choice for your MMA and fitness training.

1. Train. Fight. Win.

First on our list is Train. Fight. Win. And rightfully so. It is a small local business that prides itself on customer satisfaction. Hence, this gym provides a safe, fun, and necessarily challenging environment for everyone from all walks of life. It has adult and youth programs, it also has programs for fitness, MMA, Muay Thai, competition, etc.

Their fitness programs are pretty dynamic just so you can have fun while getting fit. It includes conditioning, weightlifting, HIIT circuit, MMA fitness, and cardio kickboxing. It basically tries to use the method fighters use when they get ready for competition. So, be rest assured fitness training isn’t all that you’d be getting. You’d develop some fighting skills as well.

If you’re there for competition, well, you’re in the right place as this gym is pretty much versatile as well. It is an affiliate of Bang Muay Thai and offers courses in MMA, Muay Thai, grappling, yoga, boxing, etc. Even better, the gym has one of the greatest Bantamweights in UFC history TJ Dillashaw as a member, back in the day. TJ will once again be fighting for the Bantamweight title on Oct 22, being trained by TFW’s coach Duane Ludwig.

TJ Dillashaw is an American professional mixed martial artist. He is signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and is a former two-time UFC Bantamweight Champion.

In addition, in this gym, there are more than enough training plans for the young ones. Named the Spartan Youth program, at Train. Fight. Win, your child would build agility, discipline, and confidence. It is open to kids ages 6-12 and some benefits your child would receive are fitness, self-confidence, anti-bullying, self-defense, and most importantly, fun.

One cool thing about TFW is that the first day of training is free. On your first day here, make sure you arrive 15 minutes early. It’d be better to get there at 5:30 to join the HIIT circuit class and you can stick around 6:30 for the kickboxing/submission grappling class also. Lastly, ahead of the class, the gym has lots of instructional videos you can watch to get you prepared.

A few years ago, they moved to an 8,000-square-foot facility at 2523 Apalachee Parkway, so don’t miss out.

2. Weinischke Martial arts

If you need a gym in Tallahassee that loves jiu-jitsu,  you should search no further, Weinischke Martial arts is a great choice. Unlike other gyms in the area that emphasize fitness before anything else, Weinischke is strictly for martial arts – Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Mixed Martial arts; to be specific.

This gym also has great programs for kids and it schedules kids and teens programs five times a week. Here at Weinischke, don’t expect to be trained casually. Rather, you’d be trained to be the best at jiu-jitsu and MMA. No wonder it has produced so many BJJ and MMA competitors and champions. From jiu-jitsu world champions like Dustin Denes to UFC vets like Brian Ebersole, this gym could take you to the very top if you’re dedicated and determined.

It has great and successful coaches also like Shane Weinischke, Larry L. Long, Joshua Elliott, Jacob Johnston, etc. One downside, however, is that their membership might be a little expensive costing $350 for a three-month investment. But based on what this gym is set to deliver, it’d be money well spent. Also, they offer personalized training in kickboxing and BJJ costing as much as $100 per session.

The gym has its tournament called the Tallahassee Grappling Grandprix, so there's always a way you can test your skills.

3. Positive balance BJJ MMA

Perhaps the most highly rated gym in the area, Positive balance is a nice family-run establishment that is great for all persons; from 3-year-olds up to senior citizens. Their programs named ‘the Little tigers’ and ‘tigers cubs’ for kids are uniquely designed and structured for character and skill development. Their mentality at this gym is that jiu jitsu is for everyone regardless of challenges and ability.

For their adult programs, the largest is Gi jiu-jitsu and it balances the fundamentals of jiu-jitsu with a modern approach. But for no-Gi lovers, this gym has also got you covered. It even makes use of the ADCC rule set, so, if your goal is to compete you’d be ready.

Positive balance has great coaches as well. Some of its coaches are Dylan Whyte (an IBJJF certified 1st Degree Black belt), James Whyte  (2nd Degree black belt), Evan Noah Whyte, Eric Bernstein, etc. among others.

Picking an MMA gym that’d be perfect for you could be rather a daunting task. However, when you get a full description of everything they’re about like I’ve done in this article, it becomes much easier.
