1. Warrior Fitness

Opened 11 years ago by BJJ 1st Degree Black Belt Ben Westrich, Warrior Fitness has continued to evolve as a gym, helping to provide all comers with a welcoming environment that helps them achieve their goals.

Being in business for over a decade has allowed Warrior Fitness to grow into one of the best MMA gyms in Colorado Springs. Their staff has expanded to 10 people, each expert in their respective fields, ensuring that all students get the attention they need from experienced combat veterans.

Classes are offered for all the usual suspects; Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, MMA and general fitness. With multiple lessons running every day, Warrior Fitness is able to segment its classes based on experience from beginners to advanced, all the way to real competition training.

What makes Warrior Fitness stand out amongst other gyms is its commitment to learning the fight game. On their website alone you can find many instructional videos. Some are free and are geared towards newcomers, while others breakdown very specific situations or positions in extreme details for those looking to deepen their fighter knowledge. Ina similar way they also post blogs relating to fighter mentality and interviews with other combat veterans to give you more insight into the fight game.

Overall, Warrior Fitness is an excellent gym for all ages and levels, offering a very complete combat program that has something to offer for everyone. 2. Prime BJJ

Prime BJJ is grappling first gym that’s core focus is around teaching its students how to grapple the Brazilian way.

Founded and led by Marcelo Motta, Prime BJJ’s ultimate goal was to pass down the techniques and teaching programs birthed in Brazil. As many know, Jiu Jitsu had a revival through the Gracie family who were able to refine this martial art for more practical use. Their program became so successful that it created a new (and arguably improved) version of Jiu Jitsu that would be known as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or simply BJJ. The popularity of BJJ then skyrocketed when Royce Gracie dominated at the very first UFC event and proved without any doubt that BJJ was the most effective martial art in real combat.

Marcelo Motta didn’t just want to bring BJJ to Colorado but to bring with him the traditional ways in which BJJ is taught in his home country of Brazil. He is the only homegrown BJJ Black Belt that runs a gym in Colorado, making Prime BJJ the only place to learn BJJ from an authentically trained BJJ master.

Although BJJ is at the center of what they do at Prime BJJ, they also offer lessons in both Judo and Wrestling making it the perfect choice for those looking to focus on their grappling.

All ages and skill levels are welcome, and you will be taught at a pace that suits you. Unlike other BJJ gyms that speed through the grading system to keep their students coming back, Prime BJJ will only upgrade you when you are ready. For example, in Brazil going from a Brown Belt to a Black Belt typically takes between 12-14 years which is very different to more commercial styles of grading. I’m sure I don’t need to explain that the difference between someone who earns a Black Belt in 2-5 years and someone who earns it in 12-14 is vast difference in experience.

Free intro classes are available, so if you are looking to join a grappling focused gym with incredible heritage and traditional training techniques, you should check out their links below and sign up today!

3. Cies MMA

Founded and run by Mike Ciesnolevicz, Cies MMA is a gym committed to well-rounded MMA training lead a UFC veteran.

Mike achieved his BJJ Black Belt from Master Sergio Pehna and also successfully gained a Black Belt in the Miletich Fighting System, founded by former UFC champion and legend Pat Miletich.

While his credentials speak for themselves, the facilities meet the same high bar. Plenty of mat space is surrounded by cage lining, giving plenty of space to grapple and to also practice cage specific techniques. That is a fairly unique element to the facilities as typically you wouldn’t get any cage training unless you were at a gym with a full-size octagon. They also have a weight room, sauna, boxing area and even a lounge streaming UFC Fight Pass. It truly is a complete MMA gym for both beginners and those in competition.

Cies MMA welcomes everyone of all ages and skill levels. They can help you use MMA to get ripped or they can manage you as you progress through your amateur and eventually professional fighting career. They even hold regular seminars if you are just looking to educate yourself, making Cies MMA one of the most complete MMA gyms in all of Colorado.
